SPORTS AND LEISURE
The borough is home to a number of
great parks and sporting facilities. There
are 670 hectares of green space to enjoy
in Wandsworth. Tooting Common (221
acres) is the largest open space in the
borough and features an activity centre,
athletics track, in-season fishing lake and
a Grade II-listed lido, the UK’s largest,
freshwater outdoor pool.
Other parks include Wandsworth Common,
King George’s Park, Battersea Park and
Wandsworth Park. In 2017, Battersea
Park, a 200-acre green space, was
confirmed again as one of the best
green open spaces in the country after
successfully retaining its coveted Green
Flag award. Described as “the jewel in
the crown of London’s parks”, the award
from leading environmental charity
Keep Britain Tidy recognises the best
parks and green spaces across the UK.
Facilities at Battersea Park include a
boating lake, the Millennium sports arena,
a lakeside café, mini-golf, a children’s zoo
and a picturesque Peace Pagoda.
