Battersea Art Centre’s Grand Hall,
severly damaged by fire in 2015, is due
to reopen in 2018.
In an attempt to help address the need
for affordable workspace within the
borough, the Lower Hall will become a
hub for a curated range of early-stage
businesses. The hub will provide a bridge
between subsidised arts and the creative
industries, and will house a variety of
early-stage businesses. Emerging
entrepreneurs will receive two hours
of business support each month.

Despite the name, Clapham Junction is
actually located in the heart of Battersea.
Renowned for its period architecture, the
area is popular with young professionals
due to the close proximity to Central
London and its lively atmosphere and
bustling nightlife.
Clapham Junction is often described
as an “eclectic shopping destination”:
St John’s Road, the main shopping street,
features a number of national chains,
whilst Battersea Rise and Northcote Road
are known for their lively food and drink
scene. Here, in addition to a huge variety
of restaurants, bars and eateries, you’ll
find boutiques such as Whistles, LK
Bennett and Cath Kidston alongside
independent businesses such as the
Dessert Deli and the Hive Shop, a
Dickensian styled shop entirely devoted
to bees and honey.
The Northcote Road Market takes place
every Friday and Saturday with traders
selling everything from artisan breads,
cheese, fruit and veg to flowers, clothes,
furniture and crafts.
The road also features an indoor
antiques market which houses 30
antique dealers under one roof. Clapham
Junction is home to The Grand, a grade
II-listed building which launched as a
music hall in 1900, and Battersea Arts
Centre, the former town hall. Today, both
venues boast an eclectic programme
that features some of London’s best live
gigs and fringe productions. Clapham
Junction is the busiest station in Europe
by track activity, with more than 2,000
trains passing through each day.
