Work continues at a pace on the

Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms

redevelopment areas – the biggest

redevelopment project in London and

one of the biggest in Europe. When

complete, this will provide a brand-new

destination in central London, providing:

6.5 million sq.ft. of new commercial

space; 2.8 million sq.ft. of retail and

leisure space; over 3 million sq.ft. of

new office space; 20,000 new homes;

approximately 25,000 jobs (post

construction) and more than £1bn

in new infrastructure.

The area will also see two major new town

centres at Vauxhall and Battersea Power

Station. Two-thirds of the new commercial

space will be delivered by 2020.

Transport is essential to business success.

Fortunately Wandsworth is extremely

well-connected through public transport.

“Europe’s busiest station” – Clapham

Junction – sits in the heart of Battersea,

complementing District Line underground

services in the west of the borough and

London Overground trains cutting east to

west. In total there are seven overground

and five underground stations in the

borough. The new Northern Line

extension is currently under construction,

and will create new stations at Battersea

Power Station and Nine Elms, set to be

operational by 2020. New bus routes are

also being introduced to the area.

Two new passenger piers will connect

Nine Elms on the South Bank to London

Riverbus services and a new MBNA

Thames Clippers pier at Battersea Power

Station has recently opened. A new

pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting

Nine Elms on the South Bank with Pimlico

embankment is also in its design phase.

If these connections aren’t enough, the

London Heliport – London’s only licensed

heliport – is located in Battersea.

Wandsworth is the most

business friendly borough

A supportive business environment is key to business success

and Wandsworth is recognised as a leader in this field. In

March 2017, the London Borough of Wandsworth beat five

other shortlisted London Boroughs to take the coveted

“All

Round Small Business Friendly Borough”

at the 4th Small

Business Friendly Borough Awards.

This award commends councils for successfully implementing

wide-ranging policies to support and develop the local micro

and small business community. The council also scooped the

award for

“Best Small Business Champion (Officer)”

.
